Hello World!
This “blog” is an attempt at creating digital content WITHOUT using social media. Like what we used to do before all the social media titans ruled our days. At the very least, this will be a space where I share reflections about Care Task Doula work and it’s intersections with my personal/home life.
February has been the slowest month since launching this business. Seasonally and financially it makes sense as most folks spend less and hunker down more during the winter months. The slowness has been a unexpected blessing while I navigate a forced move. Landlords always be landlording. Slow business doesn’t mean my life is moving any slower. However, it allows more time for me to focus my attention toward the never-ending To-Do list of working and living.
The bigger takeaway I am finding is a slow and steady un-learning of the concept, “Time is money!”. Having been part of the workforce since age 16 (now age 40), the value of my time, labor, output has been consistently equated with a dollar amount. But financial value lacks the dimension and impact of community and emotional value. Showing up as Care Task Doula has been a physical manifestation of prioritizing these values over money, despite having to make money to survive.
If you take anything away from this little post, let it be that you are more than your perceived productivity. You are more valuable than any dollar amount. Your time, labor, and energy are invaluable resources. As you are able, please give yourself a moment to feel valued for simply existing.
With gratitude,
CARE TASK DOULA
